As a result of the missed vernissage this past weekend, Lindart Gallery has offered OWS a 2-week extension of exhibition time..
Here are the new dates that we selected in collaboration with the Gallery owners:
In addition, we are re-printing our cards with the new information.
The vernissage for our 75 Juried Show has been postponed duedue to major flooding in the area in the immediate area of Cantley.
Access roads in the surrounding area of Linart Gallery are closed causing major difficulty. The situation continues to be serious with no immediate end in sight.
You will need to inform your friends and family of this cancellation and you can let them know that we will be rescheduling the vernissage.
We will be in contact with the Gallery owners and they will provide us with a new date. We will let you know as soon as possible.
We apologize for the late advisement however the situation is out of anyone’s control at this time.
Please note that Linart Gallery will be open tomorrow for all guests who choose to go under these circumstances or who may not be aware of the complications. They will be greeted by the Linart gallery owners and will be able to view all paintings in exhibit.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! - Two valuable events coming up soon for OWS members to attend.
April 29th - a CRITIQUE SESSION led by Fellow of the OWS, Ted Duncan. Ted has many years of experience with both teaching and painting Watercolour. Bring your paintings, either finished or unfinished, framed or unframed, for some friendly input as to how to turn your works into masterpieces! Members have found these sessions remarkably helpful, fun and generally informative. If you don't have a painting to share, your input is much welcomed! This is to be held at the Centennial Library branch in Bells Corners, 3870 Old Richmond Road, from 1:30-3:30pm on April 29th.
May 27th - an information session on THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT FRAMING your own artwork, led by Pamela McKinnon, who has a wealth of experience from working many years with framing, and is also a Fellow of the OWS. Some of the issues she will discuss include: materials, cutting of double mats, glass cleaning, how to properly hinge your artwork and back your painting, as well as what is appropriate hanging hardware. She even has tips on how to take stains out of mats. We take the precious time to paint our artwork, here is an opportunity to understand more about how to properly protect and show it off. This will be held in Room 1B, Nepean Centrepointe Library, 101 Centrepointe Drive, on May 27th from 10:00am to 12:00 noon
These events are free and all are welcome.

So, what is the traditional 75th anniversary jewel?
From ‘reference.com’, “A 75th anniversary is called the diamond anniversary. It is sometimes referred to as the diamond jubilee and is considered the pinnacle of anniversary celebrations. Diamonds are the strongest substances on Earth, as well as one of the most desired, and therefore represent such an esteemed celebration.”
That’s right, 75 juried exhibitions is just simply remarkable … so let’s celebrate by painting up a storm!
With this in mind, the Exhibition team has selected a fantastic venue that we know you will love! Contract signatures are still pending but we expect to have a final confirmation by the end of this week. So stay tuned for the details about location … we will let you know as soon as we know. The jurying for this show is scheduled for March 25 at the United Church Bells Corners and the exhibition start date is planned for May 1.
And with this show, we will of course continue to have awards (with some cash prizes) for paintings in the following categories:
We look forward to sending you the final details along with a registration form for Watercolour Jewels - OWS Juried Show Spring 2017!

Stay tuned and happy painting,
Reminder for the Watercolour workshop with Don Andrews, October 11-14th,
This will be held at the City Archives at 100 Tallwood Drive, off Woodroffe Ave.
The registration for the Don Andrews workshop is limited to 20 participants. There are 6 spaces left. Registration is open to OWS and VAA members only, up until February 1st, when the workshop will be widely advertised and open to all.
Everyone will have their own four foot table to work at. Room 115 at the City Archives is spacious, and the south facing wall of the room is entirely glass - therefore, the room is quite bright. The room can be locked at night, so that your supplies can be safely left on site for the duration of the workshop. There is a kitchenette adjacent to the workshop room. You can leave your lunch in the fridge and heat it in the microwave at noon, and use the kitchenette to get water or clean brushes. The VAA will provide coffee, tea and water, and a morning and afternoon snack, during the workshop.
To reserve your spot, we require a deposit of $220 against the total ($440) cost of the workshop. The final payment of $220 will be due 4 months in advance of the workshop, on June 1st, 2017. Please send two cheques payable to the Valley Art Association: one for $220 dated January 31st, 2017, and a second cheque for $220, dated June 1st, 2017. You can withdraw your registration at any point in time 60 days prior to the workshop, i.e., before August 12th, 2017 - and you will receive a refund, less an administration and processing fee of $50.00. There will be no refunds at all 2 months prior to the workshop, i.e., after August 12th, 2017, unless we can fill your spot from a waiting list. If the Valley Art Association has to cancel the workshop due to unforeseen circumstances, you will receive a full refund, within 14 days of cancellation.
The cheques should be mailed to:

Also, I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of some changes within the Executive Committee.
I am pleased to announce that Vic Dohar is now the Society’s Treasurer replacing Suzanne Daoust. I would like to thank Vic for offering his services and Suzanne for all her great work in the 6 years that she performed this role.
Also, I would like to inform that Brenda Beattie has stepped in for the WebMaster role. This is very exciting and you may have already noticed some changes occurring on the website. Please note that the development of the site is a ‘work in progress’ as more changes will continue to get implemented. I would like to thank Brenda for taking on this challenge and Victor Pavlov for his dedication with over 17 years (that’s a long time!!!) in this role.
And as you will know from our last General Meeting before Christmas, Rick Sobkowicz has reached his 2 year-term (in his case, it was 3 years!) as President of the OWS.
He has stepped down and I am now performing the role of President in his place.
Rick, on behalf of all the members of the OWS, we thank you very, very much for your support, your professionalism, your commitment, your enthusiasm…! I am certain each and every member of the OWS has benefitted directly or indirectly from your unrelenting dedication. Much appreciated by all!
And on this note, you may be interested in some of the vacant positions that we have on the Executive Committee and at this time we are looking to fill the following roles:
