Rachel MacDonald, member of the OWS, has agreed to offer her expertise with us, in an informal presentation about marketing and sales of your work. Rachel is an established watercolor artist with solo shows and sales under her belt. She has found that there are a number of things we can do to promote ourselves more effectively. If you are like me and find self-promotion not an easy task, this could be an excellent opportunity for some pointers. All are welcome. Light refreshments will be available.
You are most cordially invited to attend our upcoming Ottawa Watercolour Society Annual General Meeting.
WHEN: Thursday, November 23, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 pm
WHERE: The meeting room in St. Basil’s Catholic Church, 940 Rex Avenue, Ottawa, ON K2A 2P7.
(The entrance to the church parking lot is on the east side of Maitland Avenue just north of the Queensway.)
Come to hear what has happened during the past year and the plans for the upcoming year; speak with the members of the Society Executive; vote on matters affecting you as a member of the Ottawa Watercolour Society (OWS); renew old friendships; and, make new ones.
The first half part of the evening is set aside for members and visitors to socialize followed by Society business. There are some important items to be raised requiring your vote. We hope as many members as possible can attend and participate.
The Society will be providing some finger food and beverages but you are invited to bring finger food of your choice and whatever beverage (ie. wine) you may wish to include. Please don’t forget that members are invited to bring one watercolour painting that they have done, on any surface, for everyone to view, enjoy and vote on the painting you like the most. Workshop Announcement – Janet Rogers, AWS “Watercolor Impressions – Flowers, Faces and Figures” – April 29th – May 2nd, 2018 (FOR ALL LEVELS)
Fresh flowers in the studio will be the inspiration for the beginning of this dynamic workshop – progressing to faces and figures. Through a series of “fun” painting exercises, students will develop a more loose and natural approach – giving them an opportunity to be more spontaneous and expressive in their paintings. We will move into painting people, learning how to express translucent flesh tones, while focusing on the gesture of the person. Painting children will also be covered as well as an approach to quickly interpret the figure. Participants should feel free to bring photographs of their favorite subjects. We will also work from a model….so bring your camera! The demonstrations and instruction will be geared to beginning with flowers and ending with faces and figures.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the next OWS juried show coming up this fall. Here are some details:

In addition, we are re-printing our cards with the new information.
The vernissage for our 75 Juried Show has been postponed duedue to major flooding in the area in the immediate area of Cantley.
Access roads in the surrounding area of Linart Gallery are closed causing major difficulty. The situation continues to be serious with no immediate end in sight.
You will need to inform your friends and family of this cancellation and you can let them know that we will be rescheduling the vernissage.
We will be in contact with the Gallery owners and they will provide us with a new date. We will let you know as soon as possible.
We apologize for the late advisement however the situation is out of anyone’s control at this time.
Please note that Linart Gallery will be open tomorrow for all guests who choose to go under these circumstances or who may not be aware of the complications. They will be greeted by the Linart gallery owners and will be able to view all paintings in exhibit.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! - Two valuable events coming up soon for OWS members to attend.
April 29th - a CRITIQUE SESSION led by Fellow of the OWS, Ted Duncan. Ted has many years of experience with both teaching and painting Watercolour. Bring your paintings, either finished or unfinished, framed or unframed, for some friendly input as to how to turn your works into masterpieces! Members have found these sessions remarkably helpful, fun and generally informative. If you don't have a painting to share, your input is much welcomed! This is to be held at the Centennial Library branch in Bells Corners, 3870 Old Richmond Road, from 1:30-3:30pm on April 29th.
May 27th - an information session on THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT FRAMING your own artwork, led by Pamela McKinnon, who has a wealth of experience from working many years with framing, and is also a Fellow of the OWS. Some of the issues she will discuss include: materials, cutting of double mats, glass cleaning, how to properly hinge your artwork and back your painting, as well as what is appropriate hanging hardware. She even has tips on how to take stains out of mats. We take the precious time to paint our artwork, here is an opportunity to understand more about how to properly protect and show it off. This will be held in Room 1B, Nepean Centrepointe Library, 101 Centrepointe Drive, on May 27th from 10:00am to 12:00 noon
These events are free and all are welcome.
