Place: Carlingwood Library 281 Woodroffe Ave, Ottawa, ON Time: Executive Meeting 12:30 - 1:45 Critique 2:00 - 4:00 pm We have invited Marilyn Smith, a multi-media artist, well experienced in watercolour, and a past juror for the OWS, to share her experience and guide us in critically exploring our own artwork. She has trained under well-known artists, has a B.A. in Fine Arts, and has taught art for many years. This event is free and all members are welcome and are asked to bring 1-2 artworks, framed or unframed, to be explored in more depth for strengths and vulnerabilities, to learn how to more effectively examine one's own work. This event will follow our OWS Executive meeting, which will start at 12:30 pm. All members are welcome to attend this meeting. We are extending a special invitation to the Award winners from the 81st exhibition to receive their awards directly following the meeting around 2:00 pm. We invite you to bring the paintings associated with those awards to show the group. Light refreshments will be available. Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at St. Basil’s Church from 1 to 4 p.m. We hope you can join us for an interesting afternoon and to catch up with fellow artists and friends. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
Following the business portion of the meeting, Chris Tinkler from Select Fine Arts Materials will be giving a presentation on a line of watercolour paints based on authentic pigments. When: Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 1 to 4 p.m. Where: St. Basil's Church at 940 Rex Ave. (see map here) Note that you can access the church parking lot from Maitland Ave. Holbein Artist Materials Demonstration: Watercolour Instructor: Jamie-Lou Nicol of HK Holbein Canada Location: Studio 3, Nepean Visual Arts Centre 1701 Woodroffe Ave, Nepean, ON K2G 1W2 Date & Time: Sat May 25, 2019 10am -12 noon, Following the OWS executive meeting 9-10am, OWS members welcome to attend Holbein Watercolours, Watercolour Mediums, Designer and Acryla Gouache Holbein Demonstration is sponsored by the OWS This demonstration will introduce Holbein Artist Watercolour and Mediums as well as Holbein's innovative Designer and Acryla Gouache. Holbein’s world renowned watercolours are available in an extensive palette of 108 highly concentrated colours. We will discuss what makes them the preferred choice to watercolourists worldwide and what distinguishes Holbein’s Watercolour from other watercolour lines. Holbein’s 6 Watercolour Mediums can be used with watercolours to create interesting effects and enhance the properties of watercolours. We will also discuss gouache and the difference between Holbein’s traditional Designer and Acryla Gouache. All participants will receive Holbein, Strathmore Artist Paper and General Pencil samples as well as literature to take home. One lucky attendee will also take home a door prize with a retail value of approximately $100! Presenter Bio - Jamie-Lou Nicol HK Holbein's Artist & Educator, Jamie-Lou Nicol was born in Kingston, Ontario and grew up in the small town of Verona located north of Kingston. Nicol graduated from Sheridan College in 2004 with a major in Advanced Glass Blowing. Over the years, she has exhibited her artwork in Ontario at numerous galleries and arts and craft shows. Jamie-Lou has a passion for abstract art and calligraphy. She has experience using various art mediums in her work such as acrylics, acrylic mediums, watercolour, pencil crayon, ink and glass. Since 2015, Nicol has been working for Holbein Artist Materials Canada where she works in sales and marketing as well as teaching Holbein demonstrations and workshops. 1:30 – 4:00pm The Haven, 435 Via Verona, (off Greenbank or Longfield) Rachel MacDonald has enabled us to setup an opportunity to paint a beautiful Ghanaian woman in full African dress. This is free to all OWS members (donations welcome for the model) although space is somewhat limited and RSVP’s are requested. No instruction, but a chance to experiment with your own ideas, while working alongside other OWS artists. Several tables are available or you can bring your own easel.
