Emerald Plaza library, 2-4pm Rachel MacDonald, member of the OWS, has agreed to offer her expertise with us, in an informal presentation about marketing and sales of your work. Rachel is an established watercolor artist with solo shows and sales under her belt. She has found that there are a number of things we can do to promote ourselves more effectively. If you are like me and find self-promotion not an easy task, this could be an excellent opportunity for some pointers. All are welcome. Light refreshments will be available. Many thanks, Jane

You are most cordially invited to attend our upcoming Ottawa Watercolour Society Annual General Meeting.
WHEN: Thursday, November 23, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 pm WHERE: The meeting room in St. Basil’s Catholic Church, 940 Rex Avenue, Ottawa, ON K2A 2P7. (The entrance to the church parking lot is on the east side of Maitland Avenue just north of the Queensway.) Come to hear what has happened during the past year and the plans for the upcoming year; speak with the members of the Society Executive; vote on matters affecting you as a member of the Ottawa Watercolour Society (OWS); renew old friendships; and, make new ones. The first half part of the evening is set aside for members and visitors to socialize followed by Society business. There are some important items to be raised requiring your vote. We hope as many members as possible can attend and participate. The Society will be providing some finger food and beverages but you are invited to bring finger food of your choice and whatever beverage (ie. wine) you may wish to include. Please don’t forget that members are invited to bring one watercolour painting that they have done, on any surface, for everyone to view, enjoy and vote on the painting you like the most. The painting that gets the most votes wins $100 for the artist! Please advise Rick Sobkowicz ( pastpresident@owswatercolour.com ) if you intend to attend and the number of people coming so that we can set up the required number of tables and chairs. Fresh flowers in the studio will be the inspiration for the beginning of this dynamic workshop – progressing to faces and figures. Through a series of “fun” painting exercises, students will develop a more loose and natural approach – giving them an opportunity to be more spontaneous and expressive in their paintings. We will move into painting people, learning how to express translucent flesh tones, while focusing on the gesture of the person. Painting children will also be covered as well as an approach to quickly interpret the figure. Participants should feel free to bring photographs of their favorite subjects. We will also work from a model….so bring your camera! The demonstrations and instruction will be geared to beginning with flowers and ending with faces and figures.
